All the torn "paper" edges were planned in advance for what they would reveal and essentially assembled individually, piece by piece. Of course, there are some tricks of the trade we'll never share, this being one of them. It's not rocket science, just a ton of meticulous work. A reasonable retoucher should be able to figure this out (and then hopefully take this sage advice: run away!). Maintaining a certain level of realism (and sanity) was a concern with this job as the images were to be printed at billboard size. campaign image one | campaign image two Art
